A Word From Our Director On Our Restoration Commitments

At Dive Spear and Sport, conservation of our incredible reefs is at the heart of everything we do, and this means taking every step possible to a healthier reef. Every day on board, we educate our guests about the importance of protecting and respecting the marine environment. But we also recognise that we must hold ourselves to the same standard – even at one coral colony – or tree – at a time.

That’s why we’ve decided to take the next step in our sustainability journey by introducing carbon offsetting for every trip we make to the reef aboard Yemalla.

Thus, we’ve decided to partner with Reforest, a Queensland-based initiative dedicated to restoring native landscapes, to do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint – and we’re asking you to help us on our journey.

Through this progressive project, Dive Spear and Sport will contribute to replanting trees and rebuilding ecosystems to help offset our operational emissions. Each time Yemalla sets off for the Great Barrier Reef, a portion of our revenue will go directly toward regeneration efforts — and we invite our guests to join us in adding to our contribution.

Restoring the Daintree Rainforest

After much consideration of the current projects, we have selected our first project which is close to heart in the Daintree Rainforest, the world’s oldest surviving tropical rainforest and a vital ecosystem for the health of the Great Barrier Reef.

Working alongside Reforest and Rainforest Rescue, this project at 110 Cape Tribulation Road is restoring 30 hectares of land once cleared for sugarcane farming and cattle grazing. Through active tree planting and natural regeneration, the land will over time return to its original state of lush lowland rainforest and eucalypt woodland. This creates a vital habitat for countless species and a living buffer that protects the reef by improving soil and water health.

This restoration is more than just planting trees, it’s about healing the landscape, rebuilding biodiversity, and reconnecting fragmented habitats. By helping restore the Daintree, we’re helping safeguard the reef systems we rely on every day.

This is the first of many projects, and we look forward to potential projects in water in coming years. But just as we say on board, every tiny step is a one step further than yesterday with unlimited potential to have an exponential impact tomorrow.

Join Us on Our Carbon Offset Journey!

You can follow our reforestation journey in real time through our Dive Spear and Sport Reforest Dashboard. There, you’ll be able to see the trees we’ve helped plant, the carbon we’ve offset, and the measurable impact being made on the ground.

When booking your next trip with us, you also have the option to contribute directly to the project. Every dollar goes straight to Reforest — and you’ll be able to watch your contribution grow (literally!) through live updates on our project page.

Together, we can make a tangible difference for our planet. All it takes is 1% effort on everyone’s part. One reef trip, one tree, and one restored ecosystem at a time.
