For the first time in Australia, a SDI Instructor Development Course (IDC) solely for women, is coming to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. And it’s about so much more than earning a professional certification.
From 23–31 May 2026, Dive Spear and Sport 1770 will host this landmark program in collaboration with Dreamers Dive Academy, welcoming aspiring female dive professionals to a nine-day experience designed to educate, empower, and connect.
Held at Dive Spear and Sport’s state-of-the-art SDI 5 Star IDC Centre in Agnes Water / 1770, this course combines world-class instructor training with mentorship, leadership development, and peer support. All set against the backdrop of one of Australia’s most pristine and uncrowded reef systems.
Why an IDC for Women?
Becoming a dive instructor is an incredible achievement. But stepping into a traditionally male-dominated industry can come with unique challenges. From confidence and leadership dynamics to business ownership and career longevity.
This IDC has been intentionally designed to acknowledge those realities and provide additional tools to navigate them. Alongside the full SDI Instructor Development Course and Instructor Exam, participants will take part in exclusive sessions focused on women in business, leadership, communication, and industry empowerment.
The goal isn’t just to certify new instructors, it’s to help women enter the industry prepared, supported, and confident in their ability to thrive.
By the end of the program, candidates will leave not only with a professional qualification, but with a strong network, practical insights, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to build a sustainable career in diving.
